TITLE:  Substitute Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma/GED minimum, bachelor’s degree with teacher certificate preferred.
  2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

 

REPORTS TO:  Substitute Coordinator      Note:  Reports to Principal’s designee while in a school.

 

JOB GOAL:  To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  1. Reviews the Talbot County Substitute Teacher’s Handbook and reports for duty and remains on duty as specified therein. Also, become familiar with the contents of the handbook as it pertains to substitute employment.
  2. Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom.
  3. Teaches the lessons outlined and described in the substitute teacher’s guide and prepared by the absent teacher.
  4. Consults with the principal designee before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the substitute teacher’s guide.
  5. Reviews with the principal, or designee, all plans, duties, and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
  6. Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and surrounding areas.
  7. Writes a note about work completed at the end of each teaching day and leaves it for the regular classroom teacher.
  8. Remains in assigned classroom until all students have been dismissed for the day.
  9. Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  10. Assumes any other reasonable duty or assignment made by the principal or designee.
  11. Maintains accurate communication using our automated substitute system (AESOP) with regard to extent of availability.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Non-exempt position.  Per diem at rates currently established by the Board.
