TITLE: Career Counselor

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Eligibility for Professional Certification by the Maryland State Department of Education as a Teacher or School Counselor.  Counseling experience and/or certification preferred.

 

REPORTS TO:  Supervisor of CTE and Director of Student Services

 

JOB GOAL: Facilitate educational/career decision-making skills among students grades 6-12 through effective counseling, planning, consulting, appraisal, and information/placement services.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinates appropriate individual and group Career guidance activities (i.e., “career competencies”, “career exploration”, and “career decision-making”).
  2. Collaborates with school counselors with general educational planning/transitioning activities for students.
  3. Conducts post-secondary educational planning activities (i.e., college/technical school decision-making, college/technical school presentations, SAT Prep, PSAT, early financial aid awareness, post-CCR pathway exploration, etc.).
  4. Interprets appropriate test data (achievement test data, aptitude test data, and interest test data).
  5. Works collaboratively with the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board with scheduling career exploration trips and community events.
  6. Works collaboratively with Curriculum staff to coordinate post-CCR pathway options (i.e., Advanced Placement coursework, Dual Enrollment, Career and Technical Education programs, and/or Apprenticeship experiences).
  7. Attend professional learning, workshops, and in-service trainings and attend career and college seminars organized in collaboration with TCPS and USWIB.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt position. Eleven month work year. Salary to be established by the Board.
