TITLE: Behavior Counselor – Special Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

    1.  Must be currently licensed/certified as a Professional Counselor or Psychologist. 

  1. A master’s degree or doctoral degree from an approved professional program. 
  1. Successful completion of required internship or experience under a certifiable supervisor. 
  1. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.                              

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Education

 

JOB GOAL: To provide counseling to students with disabilities in order to prevent or remediate emotional behavior or educational related problems. 

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

    1.  Provide functional behavior assessments in order to:

 

         a.  Develop effective behavior intervention plans, and;
 
         b.  Develop appropriate programming in the least restrictive environment for students        

              with disabling conditions of emotional disturbance and behavior disorders.

  1. Consultation with administrators, teaching staff, community agencies, and parents regarding behavior intervention, educational and clinical programming, and medical/medication issues. 
  1. Provide access to information and facilitation between community based and private resources available to students, parents, clinicians, school staff, and administrators. 
  1. Provide formal and informal education regarding ED designation, behavioral interventions, psychological disorders, legal guidelines, and child development. 
  1. Conducts behavior analysis, crisis intervention, clinical counseling, implementation and monitoring of individual behavior management plans, goals setting, etc. 
  1. Translates current research into practice, assesses programmatic needs and assesses behavior management skills and related classroom management skills of staff. 
  1. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the designated supervisor.              

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     Exempt position. Eleven month work year. Salary, hours and schedule to be established by the Talbot County Board of Education, and subject to change.
