TITLE:          ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL VEHICLE DRIVER

 

QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the essential performance responsibilities and be 21 years or older.

  2. The ability to communicate in verbal and written form.

  3. Three written and verified references on file.

  4. Valid Maryland driver’s license

  5. Have not more than 2 current points on the individual’s driving record and have a satisfactory past driving record as determined by the supervisor of transportation.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation

 

JOB GOAL:  Provide a safe environment for all passengers that may be transported in an alternative school vehicle.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

1.     Transport only those pupils assigned to the van.

2.     Follow time schedules and routes as prescribed.

3.     Attend all training sessions and meeting as directed by the Transportation

         Department.

4.     Pick up and discharge students at designated stops.

5.     Reports all student behavior problems.

6.     Make sure that all students are aware of the procedures and rules regarding

         pupil discipline and safety.

7.     Reports vehicle breakdowns immediately by radio or cell phone as prescribed.

8.     Reports all traffic accidents immediately by radio or cell phone as prescribed.

9.     Refrain from backing the alternative school vehicle on school grounds unless appropriate assistance is provided.

10.   Conduct the prescribed daily pre and post service inspections.

11.   Fuel alternate school vehicle only when passengers are not on the bus.

12.   Use all lights and signals in the prescribed manner.

13.   Provide assistance to students when crossing the roadway.

14.   Cooperate with the school administrators and Transportation Department staff in

         dealing with parent and student concerns.

15.   Refrain from moving the vehicle until all students are seated.

16.   Use only appropriate language when communicating; profane language is not permitted.

17.   Performs the related duties as assigned.

  

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-exempt positions. The employment period is for the school year (10 months).  Schedules, routes and hours worked are subject to change on short notice. Salary to be established by the Board.
