TITLE: Instructional Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree or 60 credits required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents (using appropriate grammar) in both oral and written form.
- Ability to maintain student discipline in a variety of school/program settings.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: School Manager, Principal, or Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL: To achieve greater efficiency in the delivery of the educational program by assisting teachers and related staff, providing more child-adult contacts within the school setting.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists teacher in preparing room for school, preparing and distributing lesson materials, arranging bulletin boards, and retrieving and storing materials.
- Instructs students under a teacher’s direct supervision or more independently under the direction of school administrators.
- Keeps classroom and/or work areas neat and orderly.
- Supervises students in playgrounds, cafeteria, bus stop areas.
- Assists in the maintenance of student records.
- Instructs and assists students in computer related programs and activities; depending upon specific assignment.
- Instructs and assists students in media and library programs and activities, under the direction of the Media Specialist and/or school administrator; depending upon specific assignment.
- Instructs and assists students in alternative classroom activities and programs under the direction of an assigned teacher or school administrator; depending upon specific assignment.
- Performs duties to meet the personal care and/or health and hygiene related needs of students with disabilities; depending upon specific assignment. This includes such things as toileting, diapering, toilet training, lifting/positioning, oral feeding, and catheterization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A non-exempt position. Ten month work year. Salary to be established by the Board.
