Part Time MSSEC - Physical Therapist
QUALIFICATIONS: Maryland licensure as a Physical Therapist
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of MSSEC
JOB GOAL: The therapist functions as a member of the educational team to evaluate children,
plan programs, and administer Physical/Occupational therapy to identify special education
students who require physical or occupational therapy to benefit from their special education
programs.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate student’s level of function and determine need for intervention. Develops IEP goals for students requiring direct or consultative services.
- Plans, initiates, and periodically re-evaluates treatment programs.
- Provides direct service/consultation for students at assigned school in accordance with IEP.
- Instructs and assists educational and administrative personnel in efficient and safe handling of transportation chairs, positioning equipment, adaptive devices, prostheses, and orthoses.
- Advises and assists teachers in preparing and implementing physical management and developmental programs within the classroom including activities of daily living (transfers, dressing skills, toileting, feeding, etc.).
- Coordinates efforts with other therapists and school personnel for the purpose of achieving uniformity of goals.
- Consults with and serves as a resource for parents, other institutions, and school personnel.
- Consults with a child’s physical/primary care center whenever necessary regarding diagnosis and precautions.
- Attends, instructs, and/or assists in workshops, in-service education.
- Assigns, orders, adjust, adapts, maintains and repairs special equipment as needed including braces, prostheses, ambulation aides, wheel chairs, and splints.
- Assists with inventory and requisitioning of supplies and equipment.
- Prepares written progress report monthly and performs annual review one month prior to due date. Submits annual written review information to the IEP team prior to the IEP Team meeting convening.
- Prepares a written statement of progress each quarter for inclusion in the report card.
- Supervises PTAs in the school setting. Following APTA guidelines
- Maintains accurate records for Medical Assistance billing.
- Documents therapy goals, progress, absences, parent/staff consultations no less than once per month and maintain files on all assigned pupils.
- Contacts parent by phone/personal note at least two times per year.
- Completes end-of-year statistical/informational forms on school and children.
- Serves as a member of the IEP Team as requested.
- Maintains positive rapport with school, principals, secretaries, IEP team, teaching and therapy staff, and parents.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt position. Part Time, Hourly Position (up to 21 hours a week)
