TITLE: Computer Technician

QUALIFICATION:  

  1. Associates degree in a related technical field or equivalent training.
  2. A+ Certification or equivalent training and experience.
  3. Experience working in an academic institution, preferably K-12 education, strongly preferred.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of information system hardware and software troubleshooting skills and problem resolution.
  5. Ability and willingness to learn new systems and technology.
  6. Demonstrated ability in handling confidential matters in an ethical manner.
  7. Basic knowledge of TCP/IP and Wi-Fi connectivity is requiredß
  8. Sound organizational skills and an ability to recognize and change work priorities in a timely fashion.
  9. Valid Maryland driver’s license is required for travel between district school buildings.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology

 

JOB GOAL:  The technician should be familiar with all supported versions of Microsoft Windows, macOS, and/or iPadOS Technicians support student and staff devices consisting of laptops and tablets, will deploy and manage devices and applications with a Mobile Device Management system, and provide support for connected classroom and office technology.  The job demands the ability to bend and lift 40 lbs. crouch, kneel, stand on an 8 ft ladder and walk in order to perform essential functions.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Set-up, install, and maintain computing devices using remote management tools. Recommend and/or install hardware and software upgrades on devices and peripherals.
  2. Set-up, install and maintain printers, projectors, classroom A/V and other peripherals.
  3. Install and troubleshoot software while maintaining license requirements. 
  4. Troubleshoot and/or repair device hardware, printers, and peripherals, including outsourcing of repairs and maintaining service-related and inventory records.
  5. Maintain device connectivity to the network. 
  6. Provide support to end users through their requests for services by troubleshooting site hardware, software and wiring problems.
  7. Provide basic training on the care and operation of district computer equipment as needed.
  8. Assist other technicians as required and collaborate as a team.
  9. Provide support to the network administrator by being able to perform tier 1 troubleshooting procedures as directed
  10. Provide input as needed for school technology planning and network operation.
  11. Assist the Director of Technology in the purchase and procurement of all technology equipment for each of the buildings in the district. Excluding all network and server equipment

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain currency of technological skills and knowledge base including attending required trainings.
  2. Promote a positive image of the district at all times.
  3. Participate in district technology meetings as required.
  4. Operate in coordination with network administrator(s).
  5. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology
