TITLE:                                 Permanent Substitute

 

QUALIFICATIONS:             High School Diploma, Sixty (60) college credits preferred.

 

                                          Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board

                                          may find appropriate.

 

REPORTS TO:                     Substitute Coordinator

                                          Note: Reports to the Principal’s designee while in a school.

 

JOB GOAL:                          To enable each child to purse his/her education as

                                           smoothly and completely as possible in the absence

                                           of his/her regular teacher.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews the Talbot County Substitute Teacher’s Handbook and reports for duty and remains on duty as specified therein.  Also, become familiar with the contents of the handbook as it pertains to substitute employment.

Maintains the established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom.

Teaches the lessons outlined and described in the substitute teacher’sguide and prepared by the absent teacher.

Consults with the principal designee before initiating and teaching or other procedures not specified in the substitute-teaching guide.

Reviews with the principal, or designee, all plans, duties, and schedules to follow during the teaching day.

Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and surrounding areas.

Writes a note about work completed at the end of each teaching day and leaves it for the regular classroom teacher.

Remains in assigned classroom or with students until all of the students have been dismissed for the day.

Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject to and which good teaching practice dictates.

Assumes any other reasonable duty or assignment made by the principal or designee.

Permanent Substitutes are responsible clock in and out on the TimeClock.

Must report to assigned school on workdays. Principal designee will inform Permanent Substitute of their work assignment for the day, which may include working in another Talbot County School Building.

Permanent Substitute will receive a TCPS laptop that they will be responsible for until their last day of work or the last day of the school year.

Reviews and is familiar with all emergency procedures including lockdown, fire drills, evacuations and reverse evacuations, shelter in place, severe weather and drop, cover, and hold.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:         Non-exempt position.  Per Diem at rates currently established by the Board
