TITLE:         School Safety

 

QUALIFICATIONS:    

  1. H.S. Diploma; post-secondary education preferred with the appropriate ability to communicate in written and verbal form.
  2. Successful experience working with secondary school-age youth, preferably in an education environment.
  3. Able to successfully complete appropriate law enforcement training (meet criteria for non-uniformed police officer).
  4. Valid Maryland driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

REPORTS TO:  Principal

 

JOB GOAL:   Provide support for the maintenance of school safety/school security.

  

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitors activities that may interfere with a safe and positive school climate (This may include, but is not limited to student conflicts, staff-student conflicts, rumors/misinformation, specific locations or “trouble spots” on school property, potentially volatile or dangerous situations). 
  2. Provides regular and accurate feedback to administrative staff or Director of Student Services regarding activities that may interfere with a safe school environment.
  3. Documents any information or observations (daily log) regarding violation of school discipline guidelines and reports such violations directly to Principal or Principal’s designee.
  4. Assists administrative staff in crisis intervention/emergency response activities; use of “911” radio for life threatening situations in remote areas of the school and assistance in restoring order during fights (Ed. Article Sec. 7-306). 
  5. Acts as a mentor for students at-risk for suspension or expulsion (modeling, positive reinforcement, problem solving, etc.).
  6. Assists Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Teams and Student Services Teams as appropriate. 
  7. Assists school counselors and/or administration with conflict resolution/mediation activities.
  8. Assists with school-based parent involvement activities.
  9. Assists the Student Services Office in communicating school concerns to parents and establishing parent rapport. 
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.           

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     Non-exempt position.  Ten, eleven or twelve month year.  Salary to be established by the Board.
